A textural detail of Matschinsky- Denninghoff's joint steel sculpture, called 'Berlin'. Their unique technique uses bundles of thin steel tubing welded together over a forming frame. In Tauentzien Strasse, it marks the city's 750th anniversary in 1987, two years before reunification. The two links of the chain, twisted and almost wrenched apart, represent the turmoil of the city, separating but still tenuously linked.
